Larissa Lurken verbals Kent State

August 10, 2012
By Fury Staff

Larissa Lurken (2013, Guard, Park of Cottage Grove) has made her college decision with a phone call to 1st year head coach Danielle O'Banion earlier this morning.  Larissa was a member of the Minnesota Fury 2013 Elite team this summer.

Lurken averaged 17.3 ppg during her junior season at Park of Cottage Grove, leading them to the section championship game, where she averaged 21.0 ppg in the playoffs.  She has started on varsity since her freshman year and is a 3-time all conference selection.

Larissa also excels in the classroom, where she boasts a 4.0 GPA.  She plans to study pre-med in college, before moving onto medical school and hopefully becoming a doctor.

Even though Larissa only played with our club for one season, it feels like she has been with us all along. She is a tremendous kid from a tremendous family, and she formed many strong friendships with her teammates that will last a lifetime.

Larissa becomes the third player in the Fury class of 2013 to verbal to a Division 1 school, and the 6th to make a college decision.  The Kent State coaching staff has Minnesota connections, as head coach Danielle O'Banion served as an assistant coach at the University of Minnesota and assistant coach Geoff Lanier recruited the state hard during his 5 year head coaching stint at North Dakota State College of Science.

Congratulations, Larissa!
